(Avoca) The City of Avoca is making significant progress in enhancing its emergency services. A groundbreaking ceremony for a new $3.5 million facility at 1313 N Sawmill Drive in Avoca is set for Monday, April 21, at 3:00 p.m.
Audio PlayerAccording to Avoca City Administrator Tyler Trout, the new facility will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including seven bays, two overnight rooms, a storage area, and a conference room.
Audio PlayerTrout also mentioned that the city utilized innovative financing methods, including a five percent franchise fee, to bring this project to fruition. This fee will help offset reductions from tax increment financing, allowing the project to proceed without increasing the debt service associated with T.I.F. revenue.
Construction is expected to commence next week and be completed by Christmas.
The Avoca Fire Department is made up of 25 volunteers, along with a full-time EMT.
