(Guthrie Center, IA) — The AC/GC Girls Track and Field team has seen a couple of school records broken this season. Senior Ava Campbell last Thursday broke her own record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.04 at a meet in Van Meter. That time puts her 37th in the state so the Drake Relays is unrealistic unless she went below 2:18 in the meet tonight. Still, Head Coach Jacob Lacey says she has been very reliable in the long distance runs
Audio PlayerThe other school record came in the 4×400 which Campbell runs in along with Nora Langgaard, Lillie Lauzon and Savannah Akers ran a 4:27.92 which broke a record from 2017. Lacey was hoping that the 4×400 team could do it this year
Audio PlayerLacey has been using the same four runners in other relays with Meranda Gruber replacing Campbell in the shorter relays but he will not be able to do that when the state qualifying meet rolls around since each athlete is limited to 4 events so he says decisions will have to be made. Tonight, they will host the Charger Relays and Lacey is hoping for some great performances
Audio PlayerBoth boys and girls will be competing tonight in Guthrie Center with Audubon, CAM, Earlham, Glidden Ralston, Lenox, Martensdale St. mary’s, Panorama, Paton Churdan, Wester Central Valley and Exira EHK Boys.
