(Alleman) Alan Jenkins has been appointed as the new head coach of the North Polk boys basketball program, pending board approval, according to the North Polk School District website.
Hailing from Atlantic, Jenkins comes with 14 years of coaching experience, having previously worked at Atlantic and Southeast Polk. He has a solid track record and is dedicated to fostering the development of student-athletes both on and off the court.
A graduate of Atlantic High School in 2003 and Iowa State University in 2008, Jenkins steered the Atlantic basketball team to notable achievements, including surpassing 15 wins in five out of seven seasons and achieving top-10 rankings in Class 3A during five of those years. Notably, in 2017, his teams made it to the state tournament for the first time since 2002. Under his guidance, Atlantic also secured three Hawkeye 10 Conference Championships.
Most recently, Jenkins led the Southeast Polk program, helping it bounce back from previous challenges and guiding the team to three consecutive winning seasons—the first such streak since 2011.
In addition to his basketball coaching roles, Jenkins was the head track coach at Atlantic, where he led the team to a State Runner-Up finish in 2018. Currently, he teaches 6th-grade social studies at Southeast Polk Middle School.
