(Washington, DC) The U.S. Postal Service recently announced that it has filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to implement new mailing service prices effective July 13, 2025. Among the proposed changes is a 5-cent increase in the cost of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp, raising the price from 73 cents to 78 cents.
The proposed adjustments, recently approved by the USPS Board of Governors, would raise mailing services product prices by approximately 7.4 percent overall. The changes, if approved by the PRC, would impact several key mailing categories:
Letters (1 ounce): from 73 cents to 78 cents
Metered letters (1 ounce): from 69 cents to 74 cents
Domestic postcards: from 56 cents to 62 cents
International postcards and letters (1 ounce): from $1.65 to $1.70
Additional-ounce price for letters: from 28 cents to 29 cents
In a move to ease customer costs in certain areas, the Postal Service is also proposing a 12 percent price reduction for postal insurance when mailing items.
These pricing changes are part of the USPS’s broader effort to improve financial sustainability under its Delivering for America 10-year plan. The Postal Service emphasized that, despite the increases, its mailing prices remain among the most affordable globally.
The PRC will now begin a review process before the changes can be finalized. USPS is expected to release further updates as the implementation date approaches.
