(Red Oak) A swift response from multiple area fire departments helped save a Montgomery County home early Monday morning after a nearby structure fire threatened to spread.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce reported that at approximately 2:11 a.m., fire crews from Red Oak, Elliott, and Stanton were dispatched to 814 E Nuckols Street, the residence of James Grove, following reports of a structure fire. Mutual aid was later requested from the Essex and Shenandoah Fire Departments.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a large storage building—about 1,500 square feet—fully engulfed in flames. A residential home, located just 30 feet to the north, was at risk due to its proximity. Embers from the blaze also ignited a small grass fire along the hillside near the railroad tracks.
Chief Bruce noted that years of accumulated materials in and around the structure posed significant challenges during firefighting efforts. Despite this, crews successfully contained the fire and protected the nearby home from damage.
Fire suppression operations concluded around 5:00 a.m., and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no damage estimate has been released at this time. Firefighters remained on scene afterward to monitor for potential flare-ups, especially in light of forecasted high winds.
According to the press release, the homeowner wishes to thank the firefighters for a quick response, that ultimately saved his home from being involved in the fire.
The Red Oak Fire Dept is appreciative for the assistance of the following agencies:
