(Area) High winds, and low humidity prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. today for six counties along the Missouri River in Southwest and west central Iowa. The counties in the warning area include, Fremont, Mills, Pottawattamie, Harrison, Monona, and Woodbury.
Forecasters say 20 to 30 mile per hour winds with gusts up to 50 miles per hour, along with 18-percent humidity could cause fires to spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
