Creston, IA – The team trophy stayed home Monday night as the Creston girls delivered a dominant performance at the Panther Relays. The Panthers racked up 178 points on the strength of ten first-place and four second-place finishes to clinch the team title. Atlantic followed in second with 120 points, winning two events and finishing runner-up in five others.
Creston’s Cora Smith led the charge with victories in both the 400-meter hurdles and the open 400. Reese Strunk also stood out, claiming gold in the 1500 and 3000 meters. Kadley Bailey sprinted to a win in the 200 meters, and Payton Davis secured the top spot in the 800. The Panthers also swept several relays, taking first in the 4×100, 4×400, 4×800, and Distance Medley.
For Atlantic, Lila Wiederstein clocked a season-best 12.71 to win the 100 meters. Olivia Olson took gold in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 4 inches. The Trojans collected several silver medals as well: Jayci Reed placed second in the 100 hurdles (16.07) and third in the 400 hurdles (1:12.43). Stella Van Aernam took second in the 200 meters (27.96), while Katrina Williams was runner-up in the 1500 (5:45.42). Atlantic also placed second in the 4×200 (2:01.77) and Distance Medley (4:56.91).
Hannah Olson had a good night for Stanton. The senior won the 100 meter hurdles in (15.94), finished third in the 200 meters, (28.73), and Lauren Johnson led all long jumpers with a winning distance of 16-02.00. The 800 Sprint Medley Relay team finished first in a time of (2:02.57), and won the Shuttle Hurdle Relay in (1:09.56).
