(Des Moines) Drivers across Iowa are seeing some relief at the pump, as fuel prices continue to trend downward. According to AAA’s Weekly Fuel Report, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa has dropped 6 cents over the past week, landing at $3.07 per gallon.
This decrease marks a 22-cent drop compared to the same period last year. Diesel prices are also down, falling 4 cents this week to an average of $3.38 statewide. That’s 41 cents cheaper than a year ago, and 25 cents below the current national average of $3.63 per gallon.
Meanwhile, global crude oil prices have experienced a significant slide. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell by $14.07, bringing it to $57.38 per barrel. Brent crude also declined, dropping $13.99 to $60.63 per barrel. For comparison, WTI crude was selling at $86.04 per barrel a year ago, while Brent was at $92.13.
Wholesale ethanol prices remained stable at $2.16 per gallon.
Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub also saw a decline, dropping 52 cents to $3.54 per MMBtu (million British thermal units).
Retail heating oil and propane price reports will resume in October, according to state energy officials.
