(Oakland, IA) — Recently, Keaten Rieken of Riverside High and the Atlantic swimming team announced he will be swimming for Morningside University in Sioux City. Rieken broke the school record in the 100 butterfly as a junior and then broke his own record several times his senior season. Rieken says he chose Morningside over a couple of other schools — he met with the coaching staff who broke down his races and said that Rieken resembled swimmers who had been to Morningside in the past. Rieken says he plans on sticking with the butterfly but will run some freestyle as well

Audio PlayerAt Morningside, Rieken appropriately will major in aviation which is a passion he has developed over time
Audio PlayerRieken still has some high school left — he is on the Riverside track and field team, he will play baseball in the summer and he is in band and chorus and competed last night in the state jazz band competition. But for swimming at the college level, Rieken knows he has to get stronger and have the right mentality for it
Audio PlayerRieken also swims competitively on the Avoca swim team summer program and Nishna Valley YMCA winter swim team, which he began when he was 9 years old.
