(Des Moines) Iowa House District #18 Representative Tom Moore, of Griswold, said the House, Senate and Governor were able to come to an agreement on school funding.
Senate File 167, passed 59-36, sets the State Supplemental Aid (SSA) rate at 2%, increasing the per-pupil funding for K-12 students. Moore said the addition of $1,554,938 for school Transportation Equity, $2,889,174 for Student Cost Per Pupil equity, and increasing Operational Sharing positions from 21 to 25 ($942,087), were House priorities that continue to help support rural schools.
“I take this very seriously and because of the low 2% SSA voted no on the bill. It by no means says I am not in favor of the additional funding that was attached. I will continue to as for at least inflation covered SSA funding and am not afraid to go against the party when voting,” said Moore. “It is important to remind people that last year and this year we move teachers to $50,000 and $62,000 minimums for starting teachers and teachers with 12 years or more experience.”
The funding package has now moved to the Governor’s desk.
