(Anita, IA) — There are not a lot of safe bets out there but it seems pretty certain that CAM’s Ada Hansen will be competing in this year’s Drake Relays. The Sophomore is closing in on the blue oval standard for the 400 meter hurdles — her time right now is 1:05.33 which she ran Tuesday night in Bedford. That is just 8 one hundredths off qualifying for Drake in that event which is 1:05.25. She didn’t even run the 400 hurdles until her freshman season started and she eventually finished third at state. It has become her favorite individual event
Audio PlayerThis year she has never competed in the 100 hurdles but on Monday at Audubon she ran it in 16.21 seconds which is the 22nd fastest time in the state — they will take the top 32 at the Drake Relays in that event so she is the field for now in something she hardly ever runs. She is used to the hurdles — Hansen loves the shuttle hurdle relay which only finished 18th last year at state but she expects to be much better this year
Audio PlayerAnother relay that is strong for CAM is the Sprint Medley which on Tuesday came within .03 seconds of setting a new school record — Hansen ran the 400 and anchor for the relay. She is also strong in the 800 — Hansen was 9th at last year’s state meet in that event and missed the medal stand by .44 seconds. She has been good in every event that Head Coach Luke Symonds has put her in in and she says its all in the mind
Audio PlayerHansen says that her team is small but she is hoping that they can win a team title at some point
Audio PlayerHansen hopes to make it to the state tournament in the maximum four events but right now is trying to qualify for the Drake Relays with the deadline just about 2 weeks away. CAM is back on the track at Nodaway Valley next Monday.
