(Denison) The Atlantic girls posted a strong performance at the Monarch Relays on Thursday night, winning four events, claiming second place in three more, and showcasing depth in the sprints. They tallied 140 points to secure the team title.
Stella Van Aernam and Hailey Huffman dominated the 200 meters, finishing first and second, respectively. Van Aernam also took second in the 100 meters. Morgan Botos captured gold in the 400-meter hurdles and helped lead the Trojans to a first-place finish in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay alongside teammates Jayci Reed, Adler Bruce, and Wiederstein.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Reed placed second, Wiederstein came in third, and Bruce finished seventh. Botos secured her second gold medal with another top finish in the 400 hurdles, while Claire Comes placed fifth. Katrina Williams earned eighth in the 800 meters.
In relay events, the Trojans finished second in the 4×200 and took third in the 4×400, 4×800, Sprint Medley, and Distance Medley. They also placed fifth in the 4×100.
In field events, Wiederstein led the Long Jump with a first-place finish, followed by Emerie Jones in fourth and Taylee Hagen in fifth. Olivia Olson claimed third in both the discus and shot put, while Faith Larson took fifth in the shot put.
Harlan was third in the team standings and led by Lindsey Sonderman who won the 1500 (4:49.06) and 3000 (10:28.07). Also for the Cyclones, they were 2nd in the 4×400, 4×800 and Distance Medley relays. Abby Broeckelman was 2nd in the 400 Hurdles; Aubree Wegner was T2nd in the High Jump and 5th in the 100; Brinley Van Baale was 3rd in the 400 Hurdles and Ashlyn Rau was 3rd in the 800.
