(Ogden) The Atlantic boys’ track team topped the field at the Ogden Relays on Thursday night, securing the team title with 96 points in a 14-team field.
In the field events, Gavin McLaren and Xavier Darrow delivered a strong performance in the shot put, finishing first and second, respectively. McLaren took gold with a throw of 51-9.00, while Darrow recorded a mark of 49-01.00. Darrow also placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 124-04.00.
On the track, Ethan McNeal sprinted to a second-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.21. The Trojans earned crucial points with runner-up finishes in the 4×800, Shuttle Hurdle, and 4×100 meter relays. The 4×800 relay team—Mason Betts, Vincent Meisinger, Sawyer Tarrell, and Preston Williams—finished in 8:53.73. The Shuttle Hurdle squad of Grant Petty, Jaxon Hepler, Shelton Mualia, and Zander Killion clocked 1:07.29, while the 4×100 relay team of Ashton Rutherford, Killion, Jarrett Hansen, and McNeal posted an impressive 44.88.
Atlantic also claimed third-place finishes in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays. The 4×200 team of Derrick Wood, Hansen, O’Brien, and Rudy finished in 1:36.88, while Rudy, Betts, Landon Hagen, and Petty ran 3:42.28 in the 4×400.
The 800 Sprint Medley and 1600 Distance Medley teams both placed fifth. The Sprint Medley squad of McNeal, Hansen, Rudy, and O’Brien finished in 1:39.60, while the Distance Medley team of Hagen, Corbin Ritter, Mualia, and Luke Irlmeier crossed the line in 4:08.11.
Individually, Jaxon Hepler and Grant Petty secured third-place finishes in the 400 hurdles and 110-meter hurdles, respectively. Hepler ran 1:00.08, while Petty clocked 16.56. Mualia was close behind Petty in the 110 hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 16.58.
