(Coburg) Downed powerlines caused a ditch fire in rural Coburg late Friday afternoon.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says the call went out at 4:37 p.m. to 270th G Avenue, where strong winds quickly spread the blaze. Red Oak, Elliott, Essex, and Emerson fire departments responded to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found fire burning on both sides of the waterway, spreading along 270th Street. The extreme winds had brought down tree limbs onto powerlines, igniting the blaze.
No injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters.
MidAmerican Utilities responded by clearing the powerlines and restoring power to residents.
The assisting agencies included the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Communications, and Mid-American Energy.
