(Oakland, IA) — With 40 guys on the team, Riverside Boys Track and Field has plenty to try and overwhelm the competition this season. Last season, the 4×800 relay finished 4th at state and the 4×400 relay was 11th — Head Coach Alex Oliver says both teams can improve on that this year
Audio PlayerOliver says he has 6 or 7 guys competing for the 4 spots in the 4×800 this year — right now Dawson Henderson, Brody Henderson, Owen Fenner, Cruz Jaquez, and Owen Fenner are the top 5. Those guys will push it to the 1 and 2 mile as the season goes on. Cole Jeppesen has had a strong indoor season in the 60 meters, Maddox Knoke is a veteran in the 200 and 400, Jaxon Gordon will see some sprinting but his real specialty is hurdles — he was 6th a year ago in the 110 Hurdles and 17th in the 400 hurdles
Audio PlayerOliver says field events are a big thin — Aaron Smith leads in the long jump, Trent Spiering is coming off an injury in the throws, Wyatt Bell is also coming off an injury and will compete in the shot put. Oliver says when they get to the Western Iowa Conference meet in early May, the competition will be fierce with Treynor the favorite this year
