(Harlan, IA) — The outdoor track and field season starts tonight as Carroll hosts an Early Bird meet and the Harlan girls and boys will both be competing. For the Harlan Boys, it will be hard to top last season when the 4×100 relay team set a new state meet record and won the gold medal. The anchor was Cade Sears who was also third in the individual 100 and 200 but is now playing baseball at Iowa Central Community College after briefly flirting with football. So Head Coach Sam Brummer will have to re load his sprinter positions this year
Audio PlayerReisz is the only senior on the entire team which Brummer says is about 35 boys. He says his sprinters and mid distance runners are almost interchangeable. Brummer says Freshman Carson Baughman is looking good in the long distance runs and along with two cross country kids and two Sophomores Erik Heslink and Jeffrey Gross. Brummer will look to put a shuttle hurdle team together but they will be young
Audio PlayerIn the field events, Sophomore Jespyr Nielson and Freshman Edgardo Quintanilla will be throwing and Jozef Reisz might do some as well; in the jumps Junior Hayden Sorensen and Freshmen Jackson Ahrenholtz and Kreed Boggess will be long jumpers and Junior Dallas McDowell will be in the High Jump. Brummer says its been awhile since they have filled out all the field events. He also says this young group has a lot of potential to be good
