(Corning, IA) — Southwest Valley Girls Track and Field did not have a huge presence at last year’s State Track and Field meet but Head Coach Jason Hults is hoping to change that. For one, Senior Mackenzie Richards is a two time state qualifier in the shot put and she already has done well in the indoor season
The Timberwolves will have two athletes that have been successful in other sports on the track this season — Senior Maddie Bevington is the #1 tennis player and will fill in spots in relays and Sophomore Ray Helvie who is a star volleyball player will compete in the high jump. Hults says he also has three juniors he will rely on heavily
Sophomore Anistyn Poston will lead the sprints for Southwest Valley; for relays Hults feels like his 4×800 team will make a push to state this year
Hults says that Junior Alyssa Pearson has been practicing hard in the 400 hurdles and will also run in the open 400. The first outdoor meet for Southwest Valley will be on Tuesday, April 1 at Bedford.
