(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on Tuesday to talk about property taxes. Board Chair Maggie Armstrong announced before the hearing that it was the intention of the supervisors to not raise the property tax levy this year but that did not stop multiple people to stand up and said their property taxes were way too high. There was some confusion with one resident who was complaining about the assessed value of his property. Armstrong explains that the supervisors are trying to even things out
Discussion continued around whether the state legislature would pass property tax relief in this current session but nothing in regards to the supervisors property tax levy. Overall, Armstrong says that the supervisors are trying to tighten the belt as much as they can
No action was taken on the property tax levy today.
