(Des Moines) Iowa lawmakers have concluded week ten of the 2025 legislative session in Des Moines. Republican Representative Tom Moore, representing District #18 from Griswold, announced that the House has set a new record by passing 54 bills in one week. A significant portion of these bills focused on education. Among them was House File 787, known as the Iowa Education Teacher Salaries Reform Bill. This legislation includes amendments to ensure the effective implementation of the second year of the teacher salary increase initiative introduced last session. It establishes starting salaries for new teachers between $47,500 and $50,000 for the second year while guaranteeing that teachers with 12 years of experience earn at least $62,000.

Representative Moore acknowledged that if the bill successfully passes through the Senate and receives the Governor’s approval, it could help address the teaching shortages many school districts are experiencing.
