(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls’ soccer team began practice last Monday, with 23 players reporting for pre-season workouts. Head Coach Dan Vargason noted that many new faces are joining the squad. After conducting a survey, he found that out of the 23 players, only eight had previous soccer experience.
Coach Vargason emphasized that the focus this season will be on teaching the fundamentals of the game.
He mentioned that the team’s experience mainly comes from the defensive side, which includes two middle defenders and a third player who has already gained valuable playing time.
One of the returning players, Maddie Richter, is back on the field, and Coach Vargason plans to utilize her athleticism by getting her more involved in the offense.
Another returning player, Aydrie Coffman, is expected to bring versatility to the team. Additionally, newcomer Saige Coffman may play a significant role this season. Jersey Phippen is anticipated to provide speed, Presleigh Reese has improved her kicking skills, and Chloe Lillard returns with valuable experience.
The Trojans will kick off their season with two home games, facing Riverside on April 1 and Greene County on April 3.
