(Omaha, NE) — Riverside Alum Carly Henderson is making an impact with the College of St. Mary’s cross country and track teams.
In the fall, Henderson ran cross country and made it all the way to the NAIA Championships and finish 183rd among the 327 entries in 23 minutes, 26.7 seconds. Henderson and Kara Muller another freshmen represented the Flames at the national tournament — Muller finished 241st, clocking 24:05.7.
“I was extremely proud of the effort that Carly and Kara gave,” CSM Coach Derek Fey said. “It was a great experience for both of them and will pay dividends in the future. Carly picked off 22 runners in the final 1,000 meters, which was a fantastic finish to a great race. Kara has been dealing with a respiratory illness for several weeks and I was impressed with her continued resiliency.”
Earlier in the fall, St. Mary’s were the runners up at the GPAC tournament to the favorites Dordt with Henderson 12th in 24:02.5, Muller was 11th. Henderson was in third place among freshmen in the race.
In indoor track, Henderson was part of the 4×800 relay team that won the GPAC meet by nearly 15 seconds over second place. Henderson was the first leg of the race along with Mia Fosmer, Muller and Olivia Elbert on the anchor. Individually, Henderson finished 4th in the 1,000 with a time of 3:06.66 which is her personal best time and at the time ranked 69th nationally. Henderson helped the Flames finish 5th in the standings out of 11 teams.
The College of St. Mary’s will begin their outdoor track season on Saturday, March 29 at the Central Nebraska Challenge in Kearney.
