(Guthrie Center, IA) — The AC/GC Girls Cross Country team made it to state this past fall so the school is hoping that success will translate to the Girls Track and Field season. The team will be young — just three seniors: Shyann Young in the long jump, Elizabeth Gonzalez is a a thrower and Ava Campbell who was the leader of that cross country team and she got two medals last year at the state track meet — 4th in the 1 mile and 6th place at the 800. Chargers Head Coach Jacob Jacey says she is poised to have a big year
Last year, the Distance Medley relay finished in 6th place and they have everybody back this year with Meranda Gruber, Savannah Akers, Nora Langgard and Campbell as anchor. Overall, Jacey says they are strong in the mid distance but have some depth in the sprints too despite about 18 girls coming out
In the field events, Jacey is excited what his two Junior throwers can do this year — Caydence Boals and Becca Littler. Jacey hopes to get as many as he can to compete at the Blue Oval
AC/GC will open their outdoor season on Tuesday, April 1 at the Earlham Early Bird meet.
