(Neola, IA) — Last year was a good run, literally, for the Tri Center Girls Track and Field team. The Trojans sent five relays to the state tournament and three of them ran away with medals — the 4×400 team finished 7th, the Shuttle Hurdle team was 6th and the Sprint Medley team finished 5th. Not only that but the 4×800 was 12th and Distance Medley was 14th which were solid finishes. It was Head Coach Lexi Cochran’s first season and she says this year’s relay team is poised to be good if not better
Tri Center has about 20 girls out for track and field this year and Cochran says the Trojans have a good group of seniors that will lead the way
Isah Van Arsdol missed basketball season with an injury but Cochran says she is close to 100 percent. Junior Layla Meador finished 11th in the 100 hurdles last year. Junior Lucy Elsener will be a strong leader on the sprints. Sophomore Tess Casey was 8th a year ago in the 400. Sophomore Jozie Payne was 9th in the long jump. Sophomore Zohie Payne was a last second scratch at the district meet a year ago because of an injury. And Tri Center will add four freshmen to the roster this year. Overall, Cochran is excited to see what this balanced and talented team can do
Tri Center will open their outdoor season at the Audubon Early Bird Meet on Monday, March 31
