(Atlantic) Former track standout Gratt Reed performed at a high level at Atlantic, and the University of Iowa. This spring, the former all-stater and All-American returns to his Alma Mater as an assistant coach under Head Coach Matt Mullenix. Mullenix is now in his seventh year as head coach, and a former track standout in the mid-90s at Northern Iowa University.
Reed noted he is enjoying the experience as the team wrapped up their third week of preseason practice. Coach Reed says the athletes are willing to learn, and want to improve. He admits this is a big transition from competing to coaching.
Coach Reed says Coach Mullenix, and Assistant Coach Matt Best have been great mentors.
Coach Reed admits, the most significant thing he is trying to get across to the student athletes is becoming great people on and off the field of play.
The Atlantic girl’s team will compete in indoor meets at the University of South Dakota, on Tuesday, March 18, and Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday, March 22.
