(Oakland, IA) — The Riverside boys basketball team simply ran out of gas at the end of the season. The Bulldogs went through a 7 game losing streak late and ended their 2024-25 season with a record o 8-14. That is down 5 wins from a year ago but Riverside had little height and not much depth. Still there were no seniors on this year’s squad and despite no real big man, Riverside was competitive in most games and might have exceeded Head Coach Nick Kroon’s expectations
Despite only a 6 and sometimes 7 player rotation, Kroon used a full court pressure defense to overcome their lack of size and they became adapt at shooting the three — Riverside finished 30 percent as a team, Peyton Amdor was 38 percent, Owen Fenner 34 percent to lead the way. Kroon realizes it might have tired everybody out by the playoffs but the strategy kept them in most games
The Henderson boys — Dawson and Brody — will be seniors next year and Amdor, Fenner, and Cole Jeppesen will be juniors — the 6th man was Cruz Jacquez who also will be a junior but the biggest priority in the off-season says Kroon is to develop depth
Riverside did not have any seniors or freshman compete on varsity this year but Kroon is excited to work with the same group of kids during the off-season which does not happen for most basketball head coaches.
