(Atlantic) The Atlantic wrestling team capped off an outstanding season with six state qualifiers and two medalists, finishing with an impressive 18-3 dual record. The team was led by three senior standouts: Aiden Smith (144), Evan Sorensen (285), and Cameron McDermott.
Aiden Smith made history as the first Atlantic wrestler to medal at the state tournament all four years. He secured his fourth Hawkeye Ten Conference title and capped off his senior season with a 47-4 record. At the state tournament, Smith went 4-1, earning a third-place finish in 2025. He concluded his high school career with 111 pins—second all-time in program history—and an overall record of 188-29, also ranking second all-time.
Evan Sorensen nearly reached the state finals but fell in a close 1-0 semifinal match to the eventual champion. He finished his senior season with a 43-5 record. Over his career, Sorensen amassed 125 wins, ranking 26th all-time, and led the team in pins with 32 this season. His career total of 101 falls cements his place among Atlantic’s top heavyweight wrestlers.
Cameron McDermott earned a letter this season after four years with the program. While primarily a reserve, he contributed when given varsity opportunities.
The series continues tomorrow, highlighting juniors D’Artagnan Hansen, Braxton Hass, and Donovan Hedrington.
