(Anita, IA) — For its next Football Head Coach, CAM has decided to promote from within — last night at the CAM school board meeting, Assistant Nick Kauffman has been promoted to the Head Coaching position. Kauffman replaces Barry Bower who announced his retirement from coaching and from his principal position. Kauffman was the Defensive Coordinator for the past five seasons and he has developed a strong bond with everybody in the CAM system
Kauffman says that the transition should be pretty simple — he says that Coach Bower has offered his help in any way he can and Kauffman says everybody will stay in their current role accept Kauffman moving up and head coaching spot
Kauffman is originally from Audubon so the Cougars — Wheelers game is pretty significant to him and they will meet in district play this fall. Kauffman pretty much keeps his emotions in check in regards to taking his first varsity head coaching position — he likes to keep things on an even keel
CAM will be in 8 Man District 9 along with Audubon and conference rivals Ar-We-Va, Coon Rapids Bayard, Exira EHK, and Glidden Ralston plus Griswold. Looking ahead to the season, he says the Cougars will be pretty young
He says he doesn’t much to do now, just make sure the kids are keeping up with their work in the weight room.
