(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW girls basketball had no seniors this past season and young players will make young mistakes and that led to a 8-15 overall record. The Lady Vikes ended up starting 11 different players at times throughout the season and Head Coach Jason McCall says different players developed at a different pace
Two players that had solid years for AHSTW — Freshman Clara Pace and Sophomore Bella Lamp. Pace averaged 6.4 ppg and 5.9 rebounds a game and she surprised McCall a little by her development. Lamp was the only player on the roster who started every game and led the team in scoring at 8.7 ppg and McCall says that she actually played out of position this year
The Paulsen twins — Makenna and Ava — will be the team’s only seniors next year. Sophomores Addison Carroll, Macey Goshorn, Kendra Hansen, and Madison Holst along with Freshmen Reese Knop, Kennedy Wyman and Etta Partlow will give McCall plenty of options. The Lady Vikes averaged 23 turnovers a game so that has to improve says McCall
AHSTW is five years removed from a team that was one point away from the state tournament — McCall is excited to work with the same girls next year as the Lady Vikes continue the road to improvement.
