(Harlan, IA) — Many teams would be satisfied with an 18-5 record but the Harlan girls basketball team had expected much more this season — the Cyclones fell short of their goal of going back to the state tournament. Head Coach Zach Klaassen says that’s the goal every year and even though it was not achieved, there were a lot of individual achievements especially from their three seniors Aubrey Schweiso, Grace Albertsen and Molly Swensen
Replacing the trio of seniors will be difficult for Klaassen, especially the two guards who did so many things. In terms who will start at those positions next year, Klaassen says its a work in progress
Harlan will return 5-6 Sophomore Brinley Van Baale who averaged 4.6 ppg and 6-2 Sophomore Kenzley Bruck who averaged 11.3 points a game and 5.3 rebounds a contest. Bruck has a high ceiling says Klaassen and needs to develop her game especially since defenses will be focusing on her
Juniors Katelyn Koesters and Addison Wicks were both in the rotation this year and will have their minutes go up — Klaassen expects his Cyclones team will be hungry after leaving the playoffs in the regional semifinals.
