(Orient) The patrons of the Orient-Macksburg School District voted overwhelmingly to dissolve the district. Unofficial results indicate that 203 votes were cast in favor of the dissolution, while only 18 votes were against it. The election consisted of voters in the O-M CSD, spanning the counties of Adair, Adams, Madison, and Union. The vote in adair, Adams, and Union counties was 174 yes to 8 no. In Madison County, 29 patrons voted to dissolve, ten voted no.
The proposal aims to dissolve the Orient-Macksburg Community School District as recommended by the dissolution commission, which the Board of Directors appointed. Following the dissolution, the district’s territory will be divided among the Nodaway Valley Community School District, the Winterset Community School District, and an additional area that the Iowa Department of Education will designate.
The district noted staffing and enrollment issues in the school board’s decision to put the Public Measure to the People’s vote.
