(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors are getting closer to approving their next budget and at Tuesday’s meeting they approved an increase for the County Libraries Association although its not as much as what they asked for.
Back in December, the Libraries Association asked for an 8 percent increase for 2025 citing many reasons including the transition from paper to digital. Supervisor Steve Smith believed the libraries should get as high as a 6 percent increase in funds
After some debate, the supervisors unanimously approved a five percent increase in funding which is the same increase from last year. Smith did point out that grant money from some of the libraries are still under utilized.
The supervisors also set a public hearing on a proposed property tax notice for Tuesday, March 25th at 10:30 am. Right now the goal of the Supervisors is to hold final public hearings on the budget in April and certify it on April 30.
