Audubon Football Coaches Birks and Konkler Honored by IFCA

(Audubon) The Iowa Football Coaches Association recognized Audubon Head Football Coach Sean Birks and Assistant Coach Tony Konkler over the weekend.

Coach Birks was named one of two Regional Coaches of the Year in 8-player football. He stated that this recognition reflects the “hard work and commitment of his entire staff, who he believes are exceptional.” He emphasized the importance of their “unwavering dedication” year after year. “Most importantly, I want to thank our players for their unwavering dedication, year after year.”

Coach Birks also congratulated Tony Konkler for being named one of the Assistant Coaches of the Year. Birks noted that Coach Konkler led the defense to an impressive total of 25 interceptions in 12 games, which was the most in all classes. He remarked, “Coach Konkler’s dedication and hard work have been pivotal, and he has been by my side for all 12 years of my head and co-head coaching career. With 20 years of experience coaching at the junior high and high school levels in Audubon, his impact on this program is immeasurable.

Coach Birks’ Tenure over the  last 12 years includes;

* Career Record: 100-27 (.787 Winning %)

• Playoff Qualifier: 11 appearances (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024)
• District Champions: 6 titles (2013, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2023, 2024)
• State Quarterfinalist: 6 times (2013, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024)
• State Semifinalist – Dome Appearances: 2 times (2019, 2021)
• State Finalist: 1 time (2019)

“We’ve accomplished so much together, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve built. Here’s to continuing to grow and striving for more success,” stated Birks.
