(Cleveland, OH) — An alarming report says 40-percent of Americans are unaware of the contributing risk factors for heart disease.
A Cleveland Clinic national survey shows 40-percent of respondents did not know how tobacco can negatively impact heart health, the importance for a safe, unsoiled environment at 62-percent and 90-percent were unaware of what the intake of supplements and vitamins do to the body. Three out of five admit to neglecting to take their prescribed heart medication where a physician said that “not taking prescribed medication correctly can have serious long-term consequences on heart health.”
Preventative methods can include staying away from tobacco, alcohol, being overweight and managing stress levels.
The leading cause of disability and death in the U.S. is heart disease.
