(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors received a presentation from Golden Hills RC&D.
Golden Hills RC&D works in a 12 county region and their program areas are Land Stewardship, Outdoor Recreation & Tourism, Local Foods, Water Resources, Arts and Culture, and Community Partnerships. Deputy Director Lance Brisbois said one project that runs through Pottawattamie County is the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway.
Brisbois said they work a lot with County Conservation, and another project they do is gather volunteers to hand pick seed from remnant prairies.
Brisbois also noted the LoHi Trek, a multi-day hiking and camping event, will be held in Pottawattamie County in April. For information on the different trails in the Loess Hills, there is an interactive map on the Golden Hills RC&D website. You can also find information on the Farmers Markets as well as a Local Foods Guide.
Those were just a few highlights of the many programs put on by Golden Hills RC&D. Officials requested $15,000 in funding from the Supervisors, which is consistent with what the Supervisors have awarded in the past. No action was taken on the request during Tuesday’s meeting.
