(Atlantic) Ali Pieken, a member of the Atlantic Park Advisory Commission and former Splash Pad committee member, presented an update on the Splash Pad project at Wednesday’s meeting. In April 2023, fundraising efforts commenced for a new Splash Pad, and construction began in the summer of 2024. On November 4, Ali Pieken, Co-Chair of the committee, announced the completion of the $552,000.00 construction project.
Pieken says there are a few remaining items to finish at the site. Those items include the concrete pad for each bench, the benches, shade structures for each bench, roundtables, and trash cans. Additionally, she pointed out a couple of imperfections in the concrete that need repair.
The Park Advisory Commission approves the balance of the project.
The Splash Pad covers approximately 5,000 square feet. It features a unique kidney shape, showcasing a variety of interactive elements such as fountains, spray pads, dump buckets, water cannons, and a first-of-its-kind rabbit racer located next to the dump bucket. The facility includes several areas: a toddler bay with a button that activates the features for children ages three and under, a family bay in the center, and a section at one end featuring the large dump bucket. Pieken highlighted that activities are suitable for all ages based on the desired level of water exposure.
The plan is to test the Splash Pad in April to identify any issues that need to be addressed, with a grand opening scheduled for early May.
