(Guthrie Center, IA) — Shay Lemke was the only senior for the AC/GC girls basketball team that ended their season on Wednesday night in the Regional Final, losing to Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont 64-30. The Chargers were bitten by the bug on their three point shots — only going 2-26 from beyond the arc. Lemke says that’s part of the game, Eddyville played great zone defense
The Chargers concluded their best season in AC/GC school history with a 22-2 record and Lemke concluded her basketball career — she started every game her last three seasons and played in every game during her 4 year varsity career. Lemke totalled 759 points with a 8.5 ppg average. She hit a total of 111 three pointers, 295 rebounds, 348 assists, and 320 steals. She says though her senior season was a special one
Lemke was an all-district player in volleyball but is thinking about playing college basketball if the right opportunity came along but if not she plans on going to DMACC and get her business degree and then go to cosmetology school and own her own business one day. She also would like to get into coaching in the future. In the meantime, she says that there are so memories playing at AC/GC
Lemke does not play softball but she will play soccer in the spring — AC/GC sends its players to Panorama.
