(Des Moines) Strong winds and low relative humidity will increase the fire danger during Friday’s daytime.
Gusty northwest winds will peak at 50 mph at times in the afternoon. Relative humidity will drop to around 30%, with gradual improvement possible as clouds approach from the north.
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for all of central and southern Iowa from noon to 6:00 p.m. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly occur. Strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
