(Mount Vernon, IA) — A K9 police officer reported missing in Eastern Iowa has been found dead.
Mt. Vernon-Lisbon Police, just east of Cedar Rapids, say their K9 Officer Monster went missing from his handler’s home Monday night. The handler said he let the dog out for a bathroom break, but he never returned. An extensive drone search followed without success. Tuesday morning, Monster’s body was recovered from a nearby pond by Mount Vernon firefighters. Investigators believe the dog fell through the ice.
Monster had served with the department for seven years.
