(Oakland, IA) — Riverside wrestlers might be on a mission this year at the Iowa High School Wrestling State Tournament — coverage during the entire tournament on KSOM. The Bulldogs sent 8 to the Well a year ago but did not get on the middle stand. They are sending 7 this year and the expectations are high.
At 144 pounds, Jaxon Gordon had to qualify for state in the wrestleback round at districts and he is a 12 seed in his bracket with a 35-5 record — his first round opponent is Kyle Engelken of Maquoketa Valley who is 37-13. Bulldogs Head Coach Casey Conover says Gordon is extra motivated
One to watch at 175 pounds is AC Roller who is 37-8 and a 10 seed — he’ll face Max Merrill of North Union who is 35-17 in the first round. Conover says he is on top of his game coming into state
Also for Riverside, Kingston Carrigan is a 10 seed at 113 going against Blake Menish a freshman from West Monona, Davis Bramman is a 10 seed at 126 and faces Kobie Venos a sophomore from Nashua Plainfield, Caden Forristall is the 23 seed at 215 wrestling against #8 ranked Kamdyn Kraklio of Durant. Taven Moore at 150 is a 7 seed and Drew Anderson is the two seed at 132 and both drew byes in the first round. Overall Conover says there’s nothing better than wrestling at the state tournament
