(Atlantic) Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue spoke to the Atlantic City Council Wednesday evening about leveraging technology to sustain a safe community.
Chief Hogue told the Council that they are looking to put more of a safety net on the entrances and exits to town and he has been working with Motorola, NishnaNet and AMU to put in cameras.
Chief Hogue said this is the first step; the next step will be identifying key locations around town to install additional cameras. He noted that the State Center Police Department has implemented a similar system, and their Chief has been able to solve several cases that might never have been resolved otherwise.
Chief Hogue said they will start with six cameras, it will be a five year contract to get started, after the five years they will have essentially paid for the cameras and own them, and then there would be an ongoing service contract to stay on the platform.
Chief Hogue noted that these cameras will not be used for speed or traffic enforcement, it’s just a better opportunity to see who is coming and going.
