(Des Moines) A former state representative wants to be Iowa’s chief executive. Williamsburg pastor Brad Sherman announced his campaign for governor yesterday and will hold an official launch event in Mason City this Saturday.
Sherman’s main priorities will be “encouraging fiscal responsibility, promoting family values, and returning government to the foundational principles that made America great.”
The Republican’s announcement means there could be a primary battle with Governor Kim Reynolds, although she hasn’t announced her intentions to run for reelection.
In legislative news, twenty-three Republicans in the Iowa House are advancing an anti-chemtrails bill. Chemtrails are the cloud-like condensation trails that form behind airplane jet engines.
The bill would specifically ban the intentional distribution of chemicals into the air, though there is no credible evidence that this is happening. Speaker Pat Grassley says several constituents have raised the issue with him. State House Representative Ken Croken of Davenport says if air quality is an issue in the state, there are bigger fish to go after in that regard.
