Lavonne Marie Tunnell, the daughter of Glen and Edith (Marten) Strong, was born June 28, 1941. Lavonne died February 14, 2025, at the Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE, at the age of 83 years, 7 months, and 17 days.
Lavonne attended school in Carson, graduating from Carson High School. She married Kenneth Bauman in 1960 and moved to California until 1970 when she returned to Macedonia, IA. Lavonne worked at Strong’s Cafe in Macedonia and babysat. She later married Larry Tunnell and enjoyed riding with him in his truck. They lived in Carson, Macedonia, and eventually settled in Oakland, where Lavonne lived until several years ago.
Lavonne had attended Fellowship Church in Oakland. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, and word searches.
Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Edith Strong; siblings, Melvin and Marvin Strong; daughter, Jackie Bauman; and husband, Larry Tunnell.
She is survived by her children, Janet Patrick, Gary (Cheryl) Bauman, and Mary Hanshaw; brother, Kenneth Strong; grandchildren, Malissa Driver, Nicole Martwick, Michelle Bauman, Joseph Bauman, Alicia Sanchez, Courtney Bowden, Casey Patrick, Justin Hanshaw, Dustin Hanshaw; and 14 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
