(Elk Horn, IA) — After a close first quarter, Exira EHK ran away from Underwood and advanced to the Regional Semifinals with a 61-33 win on Tuesday night.
The Spartans and Eagles traded three pointers in the first quarter — Exira EHK only made three baskets in the opening period and they were all threes and led 12-10 at the end of one. The second quarter was dominated by Exira EHK with a smothering defense. Underwood got only one basket the entire quarter while Kadence Sporrer and Jaelynn Petersen each had 6 points in the quarter. The Eagles clearly missed Ainsley Roberts who was on the bench with foul trouble. Exira EHK outscored Underwood 14-3 in the second and led 26-13 at the half.
The third quarter was more of the same — Exira EHK went on a 12-0 run to start the second half. The Petersens took over the game — Jaelynn had 9 in the third and Taryn 7 in the quarter. The Spartans extended their lead to 49-24 and cruised to a 28 point win.

Taryn Petersen and Kadence Sporrer each with 14 points for the Spartans who improved to 17-5 on the season. They will play Friday night in the Regional Semifinals.
Underwood was led by Ainsley Roberts with 11 points and their season ends at 9-13.
