(Des Moines) Iowa will remain in a deep freeze this week as bitterly cold temperatures persist.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for all counties north of Interstate 80, effective from 9:00 p.m. tonight until noon on Tuesday. Wind chills as low as 35 below zero could lead to frostbite in as little as 10 minutes.
During the same timeframe, a Cold Weather Advisory is in place for counties south of Interstate 80. Dangerously cold wind chills range from 25 to 35 below zero.
A Winter Weather Advisory continues for extreme southwest Iowa, including Fremont, Page, Taylor, and Ringgold Counties. Expect one to three inches of additional snowfall this morning, leading to slippery road conditions. Motorists should use caution while traveling.
