Linda “Lynn” Swanson, age 77 of Elk Horn, IA, died at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn on Sunday, February 16, 2025. She was born the daughter of Homer and Betty (Sure) Johnson on August 4, 1947, in Madrid, IA. She graduated from Fort Dodge High in Fort Dodge, IA.
On June 18, 1975, Lynn was united in marriage to Darwin Swanson in Maryville, MO. Lynn had a few jobs throughout her life but the one that truly encompassed her talent, and creative side was being a florist. Lynn and Darwin owned their own flower shop in Elk Horn for a few years where she enjoyed visiting with customers and being part of the community. She would spend many years working at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn and enjoyed working with the residence.
Lynn was a very loving person who would do anything for her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking with deviled eggs and potato salad, being a couple of the family favorites. Throughout her life she enjoyed collecting Cherished Teddies, Boyd’s Bears, and porcelain dolls that she displayed throughout the home. Lynn enjoyed decorating the house for the holidays, especially at Christmas. Everyone who visited was amazed by all the different trees and decorations throughout the home.
Lynn didn’t like traveling too far from home, but she did get to make some great family memories by visiting Las Vegas and Mount Rushmore National Park. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Darwin to casinos throughout lowa and other states where you could find her playing the penny slots. When relaxing at home she enjoyed reading Danielle Steel books and watching some of her favorite TV shows which included Wheel of Fortune, Mike & Molly, SWAT, and Blue Bloods.
Lynn was an amazing mother, wife, friend, and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Lynn is survived by her husband of over 49 years, Darwin Swanson of Elk Horn; her sons, Travis Swanson of Elk Horn and Todd (Amy) Swanson of Plainfield, IL; grandchild, Amanda Swanson of Plainfield, IL; and sister, Connie Sickler of Arizona.
A visitation with the family present will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 3 pm till 5 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Exira, IA.
