(Greenfield, IA) — This week, Trent Warner will be trying to win a state championship in wrestling but it will be the last time he will ever hit the mat. Recently, the senior at Nodaway Valley signed a letter of intent to play football at NW Missouri St. Warner said that football was always a priority for him and playing college football is a dream come true. He did have some other opportunities including at one time Northern Iowa but Warner said when that fell through, the Bearcats emerged as his favorite
Warner fell in love with the campus in Maryville, Missouri and its only an hour and a half from home. The Bearcats will have a new head coach John McMenamin who Warner was impressed with
Warner will play defensive tackle for NW Missouri St., a position he is familiar with, he moved inside and outside for the Wolverines along the defensive line — Warner is listed by NW Missouri St. at 6-3 280 and in a press release, McMenamin says that Trent’s athleticism, power, and relentless pursuit will make him a key contributor to the Bearcat defensive line for years to come. Warner says he still has some work to do to get ready for the college game
One priority for Warner is winning — he has not tasted victory with Nodaway Valley too much in his high school career and NW Missouri St. has a history of winning at the Division Two level although they have not made the playoffs two years in a row. Warner wants to be a part of a winner
Warner plans on majoring in exercise science and would like to be a strength and conditioning coach and would one day like to open a gym to help people become better athletes. Warner will be the number one seed for Nodaway Valley at Class 1A 285 at this week’s state wrestling tournament.
