(Des Moines) Another round of winter weather is expected to impact the state this weekend.
Rod Donavon with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says snow will likely develop in central Iowa and move into northeast Iowa this afternoon. “We could see snowfall rates of one inch plus per hour, causing conditions to deteriorate quickly, along windy conditions, with gusty winds out of the south causing some blowing and drifting.”
Donavon says more winter weather is expected to enter the southwest region of the state on Saturday, bringing snow and possibly freezing rain. “The main impact will be across southern and central Iowa, which, with that narrow band of moderate to heavier snow and, across portions of southern Iowa, a wintry mix that could include freezing rain and snow,” said Donavon. ” Atlantic, Audubon, and all of southwest Iowa is on that line for the wintry mix, and a lot of this will impact Interstate 80, making travel challenging tomorrow.
The latest snow event will be followed by bitterly cold temperatures all next week, with days of sub-zero wind chills continuing.
