(Anita) – The CAM Cougars controlled the game both inside and outside, securing a spot in the Class 1A Regional quarterfinals with a commanding 66-36 win over Griswold on Thursday in Anita.
Maddie Richter led the charge with 21 points, while Ailey Wahlert added 17, and Ada Hansen contributed 11. For Griswold, Addison Adams and Carsyn Adams paced the Tigers with 11 points each.
CAM jumped out to an early 11-1 lead, but Griswold responded with an 8-0 run, capped off by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Carsyn Adams, closing the gap to 11-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Richter found her rhythm from beyond the arc, hitting three three-pointers and scoring 17 first-half points, complementing Wahlert’s strong inside presence with nine points in the paint. The Cougars dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 22-9 to take a 33-18 lead into halftime.
CAM Head Coach Joe Woolum admitted the first half wasn’t their best but expressed pride in how his team brought significantly more energy in the second half.
CAM extended its lead to 48-27 by the end of the third quarter before closing out the game with a 66-36 victory. Coach Woolum is impressed with freshman post-player Ailey Wahlert’s progress, highlighted by her 17 points, along with Richter’s clutch long-range shots.
Griswold connected on six three-pointers in the contest, with Addison Adams and Carsyn Adams each draining three. Brystol Wyman and Sadie Gohlinghorst added five points apiece, while Ryleigh Harrison and Amanda Houser each finished with two.
For CAM, in addition to Richter’s 21 and Wahlert’s 17, Krista James chipped in six points, Ruthie Rich had five, while Daphna Wahlert and Kaitlyn Platt each knocked down three.
Now 12-10, CAM moves on to face Woodbine on Tuesday night. Griswold ends its season at 6-16.
