(Guthrie Center, IA) — One of the biggest games tonight around the area is in the West Central Conference as #2 Madrid hosts #4 AC/GC. In the power rankings on Bound, Madrid is #1 and AC/GC is #2 so any way you look at it, its a game against two of the best 1A teams in the state. The Tigers beat the Chargers a month ago 83-77 — its the only loss of the season for AC/GC so it really sticks out for Head Coach Lance Kading who had to juggle his line up because of foul trouble
AC/GC has no problems scoring — they are averaging 73.3 points a game as a team which ranks 5th in Class 1A but Madrid averages 80.6 a game which ranks 2nd. Madrid has major three point shooters that the Chargers will have to deal with. Kading has had to make some changes in how they play defense and has not played as much halfcourt pressure
In the first meeting, Madrid seemed like they had unlimited shooting range and it caught the Chargers by surprise. Kading says they will be ready this time around and even though the playoff brackets are out and its late in the regular season, there is plenty of motivation
If Madrid wins tonight, they clinch the West Central title outright, a Charger win and they share the title.
