(Atlantic) The newly established Atlantic Community Aquatics Committee convened for its second meeting on Tuesday, continuing its efforts to shape the future of aquatics in the community.
The committee consists of key stakeholders, including a YMCA board member, the YMCA executive director, a YMCA aquatics representative, the Atlantic Park and Recreation Department Coordinator, a representative from the Park and Recreation Advisory Commission, a city council representative, and two additional community leaders with a strong commitment to aquatics. The current members are Dan Haynes, Ali Pieken, Jodie Hogue, Chelsie Rush, Jeff Christensen, Emily Kennedy, Chelsie Huddleson, and Allison Knox-Westmeyer.
The committee’s primary objective is to establish a structured vision for aquatics in Atlantic. Responsibilities include evaluating the city’s aquatic facilities, identifying necessary upgrades, repairs, and maintenance, and compiling recommendations for review by the YMCA and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. The committee also researches potential improvements and presents updates to the YMCA board and Parks and Recreation Commission as needed.
The group first met on January 15 and conducted an on-site pool walkthrough on February 6 to assess improvement needs for the 2025 swim season. During Tuesday’s meeting, members discussed various topics, including signage for Splash Pad restrooms, a new concession stand door, the state approval process for adding pool features, membership sales, pool hours, marketing strategies, and more.
